Transforming STEM Education in Philadelphia Public Schools

Amanda Smith is assembling an interdisciplinary team of faculty and graduate students affiliated with the College of Education, the College of Arts and Architecture, the College of Agriculture, and Multicultural Outreach Admissions to better understand the Philadelphia public education landscape and explore new avenues to engage with K–12 STEM educators.

This team will work with the Center to develop a pilot program that enhances teacher professional development and K–12 curriculum using cutting-edge STEM research and addresses community issues as part of student experiences. This is the first step for the Center for Science and the Schools in developing action plans that address needs in Philadelphia public schools.
